He was a revolutionary during the time of Turkish rule in this country. He organised several hundred men and marched from the Romanian border to this point where he was defeated by the Turks. The Turks decapitated him and his men and marched their heads into Sofia on sticks. The rest of Hristo Votev's Men's remains are in the Cherapish Monestery which I saw later on in the trip. |
