Hobbes
Please help me in remembering Hobbes, who passed away last night at the age of 14.5 (101 in human years). He lived in 7 states (counting an unintentional month in northern Virginia), hiked the Appalachian trail for 400 miles, visited the grand canyon, climbed to 13,000 feet with his own food on his back, swam half a mile across sand lake, and raised two adopted puppies (stella and bean). He started life as a college student (raw hamburger and post man for dinner, at least one boat ride with the Purdue Crew) and ended life as an old dog, sleeping by the window between trips to the back yard and water bowl. However, even in his last days he kept babies faces clean and alerted us to the UPS truck in the driveway. And he never lost his taste for bathroom trash and new rolls of toilet paper. He had the vocabulary of a 2-year old, but an emotional intelligence we can all only hope to acquire.
